Terms of use

MSRX Split is free and offered as it is. Here is what that means.

Last updated 7 October 2026

Who you are agreeing with

MSRX Split is operated by Mrinal Singh Raja, an individual, publishing under the name "MSRX". MSRX is a brand name, not a registered company, and nothing here should be read as implying a company behind it.

In these terms "we", "us" and "MSRX" mean Mrinal Singh Raja. "You" means the person using MSRX Split. Written notice reaches us at mrinalsinghraja@gmail.com. By using the app you agree to these terms and to the privacy notice.

What it does, and what it does not

MSRX Split helps a group record shared costs and work out who owes whom. It calculates shares and suggests payments. It does not hold, move or collect money, and it is not a payment service. Settling up happens between you, outside the app.

Amounts are divided to the smallest unit of the currency, and any leftover unit is given out by a fixed rule, so shares can differ by that unit. Exchange rates are typed by you and used as typed. Check the figures before you pay anyone. Nothing here is financial, tax or legal advice.

Your group's data

A group's data belongs to its members. We claim no rights over it, and could not exercise any, because it never reaches us.

You are responsible for having the agreement of the people you add, for who you share the group code with, and for what you record. Everyone with the code can read and change everything in the group. Removing a member from the list does not by itself stop them opening it.

Admins, leaving and removal

A group's creator is its admin, and admins can add and remove people and make others admins. These roles are rules the app follows, not security: nothing stops someone who has the group code from changing the group's data directly, so rely on them only among people you trust.

You can leave a group at any time and rejoin it later, unless an admin removed you, in which case only an admin can add you back. Leaving or being removed does not erase what you entered or settle what you owe or are owed: your balance stays so the others can settle with you, and you remain responsible for it. Neither stops anyone who has the group code from opening the group, so treat the code as you would a key. Personal codes identify a person in a group; they are not passwords.

Moving a group

An admin can move a group to a new one with a new code, for example to shut out someone who was removed. The old group is then closed. Entries added afterwards exist only in the new group, and anything that had not reached the admin's device before the move is left out of it. The people you keep must open their new personal links to join the new group. Moving a group does not take anything back from someone who already has a copy.

Keep a backup

Your data lives only on members' devices. Browsers can clear it, phones get lost, and with no server there is nothing for us to restore. Download a backup of any trip that matters, and keep the group code safe: without it a backup cannot be opened and a group cannot be rejoined.

Syncing

Devices sync directly when they are online together. If nobody else is online, changes wait on your device until someone is. The sync relay that introduces devices runs on a free plan with daily limits and may be unavailable at times. When it is, the app keeps working on each device, and syncing resumes when the relay returns.

Ask Split AI

Answers to typed questions are written automatically by an AI service from a summary of the group's figures. They may be incomplete or wrong, and they are not financial, tax or legal advice. Check the figures in the app before relying on an answer or paying anyone. The quick questions are worked out on your device from the group's own data.

Typed questions are free and offered while they last. We may limit them, change the service behind them or switch them off at any time, and the rest of the app keeps working.

Acceptable use

Do not use the app for anything unlawful, to harass anyone, or to record information about people who have not agreed to be in a group. Automated or bulk use of the sync relay or of Ask Split AI is not permitted and will be blocked.

No warranty and no liability

The app is free and is provided as it is and as available, without any warranty of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, fitness for a purpose, availability and freedom from errors. Software has bugs and browsers differ. A calculation might be wrong, a sync might not arrive, and data might be lost.

The app only keeps a tally. It is not financial, accounting, tax or legal advice, and it does not hold, move or collect money. You are responsible for checking the figures and for settling up with the other members yourself.

Disputes between members, what any member or admin enters, changes or removes, and what happens to a group are between the members. We are not a party to them and are not responsible for them, or for the services listed below.

To the fullest extent the law allows, MSRX and Mrinal Singh Raja are not liable for any loss, damage or claim of any kind arising from using or being unable to use the app, whether direct or indirect, including loss of data, money, profit or opportunity. You use the app at your own risk.

Nothing here excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under Indian law, and your statutory rights are not affected.

Services we rely on

The app is hosted on Vercel. Device introductions go through a relay on Cloudflare, devices discover their public address through a Google STUN server, and when a direct link is blocked their traffic can pass through Cloudflare's TURN service. Typed questions to Ask Split AI, when turned on, are sorted by TypeSafe and answered by Groq's AI service. These are described in the privacy notice. We do not control them and are not responsible for their availability.

Open-source components

MSRX Split is built on other people's open-source software, including React, Yjs and y-webrtc, all under permissive licences whose notices ship with the code. A copy is available from mrinalsinghraja@gmail.com on request.

Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts at Bengaluru, Karnataka, India have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of them.

Changes

We may change these terms. The date at the top shows when they were last rewritten. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it.
